Kissing under the Mistletoe

Have you given a kiss under the mistletoe?

This is a tradition that is well know around Christmastime and it got me curious as to how this tradition started.  There are no definite links back to the origin of kissing under the mistletoe, but there are couple of different legends and not even the legends are not quite the same.  One of my favorites is the Norse legend and here is one version.

Baldur was the son of the king Norse gods Odin and his wife Frigg.  Baldur started having nightmares of his own demise and so Frigg, being the dedicated mother that she was, decided to take action to protect her son.  Frigg set out to ask everything from the four elements of fire, water, air and earth for a promise that no harm came to her son.  She asked every being and plant to not harm her son.  Frigg had asked everything except she had overlooked mistletoe.

Loki an evil spirit realized that Frigg had overlooked mistletoe and made an arrow out of the mistletoe wood.  Loki then went to Baldur's blind brother, Hoder and guided his hand to to shoot the mistletoe arrow that killed Baldur.

It is said that Frigg's tears and grief turned the mistletoe plants berries white and brought Balder back to life.  Frigg was so grateful that she declared that the mistletoe a symbol of love and promising and that no harm should come to those under the mistletoe only a kiss as a token of love.

Merry Christmas!

Meet Rufus

My husband and I decided that we would try fostering a dog.  Ok...I really wanted to foster a dog and sweet talked my hubby into agreeing with me.  But either way, we are now foster parents to Rufus.

Rufus is 57# of pure love.  He is such a sweet boy and looks to be a Shepard mix around 7-8 years old.  We are fostering him for Forgotten Paws.  He was taken to the vet on Monday and they said that Rufus is heartworm positive.  He will be staying with us through the holidays and in January he will have the procedure to take care of the heartworms and hopefully will be ready to find his forever home.

Rufus was a sad and confused boy, but he is adjusting very well and he is soaking up the love.  I am also very proud of our princess Jack Russell Terrier, Jade as she is tolerating Rufus.  She is not really happy about sharing the love but she is doing so much better than I thought she would.

Stay tuned for more updates on Rufus.

Over the weekend my husband made me a table for the corner of our living room.  He made it out of pallet boards and then I painted it.  We make a great team.  I wanted a rustic looking table and I think this one turned out nice.
