Valentine's Day Card

I finally got some time in The Craft Closet tonight!  I get in a funk when I haven't created anything for a few days!  I am now funk free!  Here is a Valentine's Day card that I made...

I tried something new tonight.  I do not have any texture tools, so I decided to make my own texture background using a stamp, Versamark stamp pad and white embossing powder.  It is hard to see in this picture but there is a Love stamped in the background and I think it added a little something to the card.

Thanks for checking me out!

Trivia Today

Today's trivia from Trivia Today blew my mind a little bit.

I knew that the largest living creature on earth is a blue whale, but what I did not know is just the whale's heart is similar to the weight and size of a mini-cooper car!  Now every time I see a mini-cooper I am going to be thinking about a whale's heart.

The other thing that blew my mind is that a whale's tongue weighs around 5,952 pounds which is comparable to an average Asian Elephant.

I am a very visual person and to think that an elephant would fit into a whale's mouth and have room to, I don't know; dance, take a nap, run laps or whatever the elephant would like to do, is just flabbergasting to me!

Valentine's Day Card

I was up early and wasn't sure what I wanted to do first so I made a pit stop to The Craft Closet to...you know...ponder, think, plan out the day.  Well I did not get the plan for the day done, but I did make this sweet Valentine's Day card.

Now back to the plan of making the plan for the day....

Thinking of You

Here is a Thinking of You card I made tonight.

I pulled out my metallic watercolors and embossing powders that I haven't used for awhile.  It was a bit difficult to get the lighting right, but the saying in silver says "May you touch dragonflies and stars, dance with fairies and talk to the moon"

Kids Birthday Card

Tonight I made a birthday card for our nephew who is turning 10.  He adores penguins and since I did not have a penguin stamp I decided to piece a penguin together.  I scoured Pinterest for inspiration and this is what I came up with.

I think the little guy turned out kind of cute.

Christmas Card Challenge

Every year I say I am going to send out handmade Christmas cards and every year I do not send out handmade Christmas cards.

I always wait until November and think I am going to pop out 50 cards before December 1st.
Seriously?!?

Yep! I am very good at setting myself up for failure, but this year, this golden year of 2015, I have finally figured it out.
*drum roll*  I am going to make one Christmas card a week.

I know!  Genius right?
This is where I get out all my fingers and toes and do the math.  (Math and I are not friends).  1 card a week x 52 weeks in a year = 52 cards!
I have 7 whole days to come up with one Christmas card.  Easy peasy!

dut-dut-dut-da-da-da...Christmas card #1

Stay tuned for 51 more Christmas cards.   (Too scary!)
Stay tuned for another Christmas card next week.  (Ah, much better)

Stamps used:

Pennies from Heaven

While taking the dogs for their daily Tangle Tour, I found 2 pennies on the ground and it got me thinking.  (By the way, a Tangle Tour is when I take the dogs for a walk and I also end up exercising my Ninja skills and cat-like reflexes to avoid being tied up or tripped up by the dogs' leashes and doing a face plant on the pavement.  I am sure the neighbors look forward to seeing this free daily entertainment.)

Anyhow, back to the pennies.  When I found the pennies, I thought of the "Pennies from Heaven" poem. I decided to start a Pennies from Heaven jar where I will keep all the pennies and other gifts that are sent to me from Heaven and at the end of the year I can look through the jar and see how truly blessed I am.  I have placed the jar on our mantle so my hubby and I can see it everyday and see how lucky we truly are.

Here is the poem:

"PENNIES FROM HEAVEN"

I found a penny today
Just laying on the ground.
But it's not just a penny
This little coin I've found.

Found pennies come from heaven
that's what my Grandpa told me.
He said Angels tossed them down
Oh, how I loved that story!

He said when an Angel misses you
They toss a penny down,
sometimes just to cheer you up
To make a smile out of your frown.

So don't pass by that penny
When you're feeling blue.
It may be a penny from heaven
That an Angel's tossed to you.
by Charles Mashburn

flummoxed \fluhm-uh ks d\

Happy New Year!

I hope that every one had a happy and safe New Years Eve!  Since I stayed in last night, I do not have a raging hangover so that is a bonus for starting out the New Year right already!

Being New Year's Eve I of course heard the song "Auld Lang Syne"; which got me thinking about the conversation between Harry and Sally in When Harry Met Sally.
Harry:  What does this song mean? My whole life, I don’t know what this song means. I mean, ‘Should old acquaintance be forgot?’ Does that mean that we should forget old acquaintances. Or does it mean that if we happened to forget them, we should remember them, which is not possible because we already forgot them?”Well, maybe it just means that we should remember that we forgot them or something,” Sally. “Anyway, it’s about old friends."
And this, of course, got me doing some research on the song "Auld Lang Syne".
Auld Lang Syne means "times gone by".  Scotland's Robert Burns wrote the song in 1796.  Guy Lombardo and his band have been credited to making the song popular when they played it live between two radio programs just after midnight in 1929 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York.
I have put the lyrics below.  You have 364 days to memorize them and impress all your friends next New Year's Eve.  I have just put the 1st verse because usually that is all anyone makes it through before they need another drink.
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne?
CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
And surely you’ll buy your pint cup
and surely I’ll buy mine!
And we’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
