Story Time #2

Time to dust off your keyboard and get your creative juices flowing because it is story time!   I can't wait to read your short story!

Writing Challenge: Write a short story using the 5 words below.

You can either post your short story in the comments below
or link up your blog here:

Rules:  Please keep the story clean-ish.

Here is my short story:

I was envisioning an agonizingly long waiting room experience where all I could do was sit and watch my anxiety fester and grow with each ticking of the clock.  I knew once I was in that doctor’s office what was going to happen next.  He would smile at me and say “You are going to feel a sharp pain and then it will all be over with.”
Then he would jam a 6 foot needle into my arm so hard that the tip of the needle would scrape against the bone in my arm.  Well, that is what my imagination conjured up as to what it would be like if I had to go in for a tetanus shot.
Oh no!  Not going to happen!  A tremor of excitement rippled through me when I realized my search was over.  Da-ta-da-da! A hammer!
It was time to show my muscular strength and diy skills.  That protruding, sharp, rust covered nail was not going to be the death of me!  It was hammertime!  Oh-oh oh oh oh-oh-oh!  I then proceeded to try and dance like MC Hammer.  Now that just might get me a hospital visit!
With just one WHACK, I dispersed the horrifying images of a doctor visit that my vivid imagination conjured and drove that menacing nail back into its place.  That nail would no longer be a threat to my soft, unprotected flesh or my insurance policy!

Have Fun! - A Repurposed Altoids Tin

I have a love/hate relationship with Altoids mints.  I love them but I hate that they keep my dentist living the good life.  Turns out these delicious little mints are not the best thing for my teeth.

The only reason I ever bought my first tin of Altoids mints was because I loved the tin!  As soon as I had that little tin in my hand, I had all kinds of ideas to repurpose that tin.  I started popping mints like crazy just to empty the tin so I could use it.

Maybe I should scour the internet and Pinterest to find another use for the actual mints because there are tons of ideas on how to repurpose the tin.  Who knows maybe the mints could be used to keep away some rare bug or to clean my toilet.

Anyhoo, here is my first repurposed Altoid tin.

The idea came to me when I was walking around the Dollar Tree (best store ever for crafting) and I happened across Goofy waving at me.  Of course, I waved back and then I thought you are a friendly guy…you should come home with me!  To my delight, I found that Goofy fit inside an Altoid tin.

I designed and printed out both the “Always Remember To” and “Have Fun” sayings and then cut them to fit and used decoupage to attach to the tin.  I also decoupaged the background papers in the inside of the tin.  I then hot glued Goofy inside the tin.

I had my mom in mind while I was making this tin.  She has had a hard couple of years and, like all of us, life & responsibilities sometimes get in the way of having fun and enjoying life.

I hot glued magnets to the back of the Goofy tin so Mom can hang it on her fridge. I wanted her to have a reminder to have fun and for her to know that I am thinking of her always!

Challenge:  Show me your repurposed Altoid tin!

Why Do I Blog?

It has been almost 2 years since I have started this blog.  2 years!   This really blows my mind because I am not one to stick to one thing for any length of time.  I am flighty and easily distracted. Oh look! My favorite!  A butterfly!  I have to give myself kudos because 2 years at sticking with something is HUGE for me.

So there is something here.  There is a reason that I have stuck with Percolating Spark even if I haven’t fully realized the reason yet.

My intention when I first started blogging was to inspire, share and encourage creativity.  If I am being completely honest with myself I have been doing more sharing than inspiring or encouraging.  This blog has just been Meh.

Truth is, I have just been sharing fluff and not anything personal.  I was scared to let the woman behind the curtain be seen.  I wanted to be seen as the Great and Powerful Ozzette where everything is perfect and I could control how others saw me.  Well, of course, that is boring!  People want to see the good, bad & ugly, otherwise, why the hell would reality TV be so popular?

Well, my friends stay tuned for changes.  Now don’t panic.  I am not going to be giving a blow by blow on my meals and bowel movements for the day…only my closest friends get that privilege.  I will, however, give this blog the fun and personality it is so craving.

I have decided to take a break from being on the design team for Hiding In My Craft Room.   I will still be making cards just not on a weekly basis. Being on HIMCR design team was a wonderful opportunity for me to challenge myself and was such a fun experience.  I loved that a group of us were given an image and theme and we had to come up with a card.  It thrilled me to see the different techniques, colors, and creative expressions that the other design team members came up with.

I am enamored with challenging ourselves to see things differently. That is why I want to change my focus to art journaling, repurposed art and writing challenges. I would like to share thoughts about our creative journey and do creative challenges so that we can explore and brew creativity.  But most of all have some FUN!

Wildflowers Day #84

I have flowers!  I am a happy, happy girl!  I love to see these vibrant colored flowers by our mailbox.

I have learned that I have to water these flowers at least once a day but they really prefer 2x a day because they tend to wilt fast.

I really cannot blame these flowers for demanding so much water as I would be a hot, wilted mess too if I was in the beating sun at 90+degrees all day.

For this week's card I am using Holiday Deer Digital Stamp set and Deck the Halls Digital Paper from our sponsor this week MKH Designs.

I really like the masculine feel of this Christmas card!  Of course, after I made the card I realized that I was supposed to have used New Fold for this week's HIMCR challenge but I did not have time to make an adjustment or a new card.  I did want to share the images from our sponsor so I am posting what I have made.  I am a rebel like that. :)

Handmade card - Nailed It!

This was a fun card to make because it has one of my favorite sayings,
"Nailed it!"  I used a hammer and nail from Katie Hatfield Designs Do It Yourself stamps and added them to the words "another year" in Microsoft Word to print out and color for the front of the card.

Duct tape is fast becoming one of my favorite things to add to cards and I again used duct tape to make the outside border for the image.  I colored in the hammer and the nails using colored pencils.

Here is the inside of the card:

Handmade Card - Penguin Wreath

We are celebrating Christmas in July at Hiding In My Craft Room.

For this card I used Wreath Hanging Slippy from Digital Delights.  Since I adore non-traditional Christmas colors, I decided to go with non-traditional colors to give the card an extra twist.  I colored in the image with Sharpie markers and Highlighter pens. I used my snowflake paper punches to add a few snowflakes to the card.

Handmade Card - FUN

Confession time:  I have an obsession with cutting out words and pictures out of magazines and newspapers.

It is true.  When I do sit down in front of the TV, I usually have a magazine, scissors and my word sorter.  I use these images and words in my art journals, but I have been so busy with making cards, yard work and other projects that I haven't found the time to work on art journaling.

Since my clipping collection is getting massive, I decided that I would try incorporating some clippings in some of the card making that I do.

Let me tell you that was FUN!  Like...literally.

After I assembled the card, I realized that I should have taken a picture of the clippings so you could see how I arranged them.  I will try and break it down.

I put a black mat around the word "fun" that I clipped out of a magazine and added it on top of the colorful clipping that I used as a background on the card.  I then added the word "have" to the "fun" matting and the number 17 in the corner.

I created an arrow with a clipping and the corner of the black paper I used for the matting.   This card is for our nephew who will be turning 17 this month.  I always struggle with coming up with ideas for teenagers...especially teenage boys but I am loving how this card turned out.  I am also thrilled to be able to use some of my clippings instead of just hoarding them.

Wildflowers - Day 42

My wildflowers are not growing as fast as I had expected.  My best friend back in Wisconsin planted her wildflowers a week or so after I planted mine and her's are growing like crazy!

According to the research I have done, it can take up to 6-12 weeks after the seeds germinate to produce blooms and if you are in a "hot zone" things could be even slower.

It has been 90+ for several weeks here in Georgia so I feel it is safe to assume I am in a "hot zone".  Again, I am being taught a lesson on patience.  *sigh*

The good news is that they are still growing and I am going to do all I can to keep them thriving.  Let's hope they keep growing to produce some flowers!

Otherwise, it is a very, very long drive back to Wisconsin just to swipe some wildflowers from my friend's garden for my table.  It may be totally worth it to see her face if I were to show up with my snippers and ask her for a cup of coffee while I steal her flowers. LOL.

Here are the wildflowers on day 42:

It was quite refreshing to make a Christmas card this week!  The digital stamp that I used on this card is Gilded Christmas Dove from Robyn's Fetish Digital Stamps & More.

I used red and green markers and Wink of Stella in gold to color in the image.  I also used the gold Wink of Stella to create the gold border.

Handmade Card - Handy Man

For this card I used digi stamp All Mine from Pickled Potpourri Designs.
This was a great image to use for my father-in-laws birthday.

He and my husband are no strangers to using duct tape to fix many things and it is a running joke in our family to get the duct tape when anything is broken.

Handmade Card - Pretty Fish

I loved the tropical background that I used for the digi stamp Pretty Fish from 2 Cute Ink but I felt like the card just needed something more.  I wanted more of a 3-D effect.

I was then inspired by my Auntie Bev and the paper quilling cards that she makes!  I added the twirled plants and added little fronds on the bright green leaves to make them stand out.  I also used foam dots behind Pretty Fish to make him seem like he is floating. Thank you for the inspiration Auntie Bev!

Here is one of the gorgeous cards that Auntie Bev has made!
You can see why I was inspired!
